Let's give community spirit and prosperity a major boost! With society's new values, and increased global competition, schools must be encouraged to play a major role in achieving continued prosperity within their community. Schools will need to be bold, seize new initiatives, and be confident in playing a key role in their community’s development. The challenge is to achieve this with finite resources (including teaching staff and other financial constraints), whilst coping with increasing pace of change in curriculum initiatives. The LocalBiz Project offers a route for forward-thinking Heads, keen to broaden their leadership role within the community. Through nurturing your students, an active expansion of school activities considerable community benefits can be achieved. The LocalBiz directors believe that with the right vision and support, certain schools are destined to become significant players in future community development, helping to build a strong and lasting community spirit. As recognised providers in equipping young people with the skills and talents to help society compete globally in the new millennium, schools are well positioned to influence the direction and values of that community. How? One solution is to recognise and embrace the possibility of harnessing one of its few ‘appreciating' assets – its young people! Our factsheet provides details of The LocalBiz project. The Project helps teachers deliver a number of learning outcomes across the curriculum including many elements of the KS4 statutory provision of work-related learning. You can make “Enterprise” your second language! The LocalBiz Project represents a bold initiative. This has already been recognised by the DTi, and Education and Business Link West Yorkshire. We have already undertaken a feasibility study to spearhead this project in West Yorkshire. Exciting times lie ahead for schools involved in The LocalBiz Project. We hope that your school will participate and give your students an opportunity to take part in this exciting initiative. Brighouse High School is one such Business and Enterprise school, and received praise by the HMI for seizing the opportunity. |
